The Golden Globes were last week (ish), and Hollywood’s biggest stars showed up and showed out on the red carpet. Something that I really loved about the setup of this carpet is that, instead of the typical step-and-repeat backdrop, guests posed on the steps outside the venue.
My guess would be that the inspiration for this idea comes from the Met Gala, which has famously been organized this way for years. What I like about it is that it allows us to focus more on the clothes as they were meant to be seen. As I mentioned a couple of times in my last post, some outfits don’t translate well to red-carpet photos. Changing up the red carpet for the Golden Globes gave guests and designers a chance to really shine and just generally produced nicer looking photos.
Speaking of photos, let’s take a look at the outfits that have stuck with me the most.
Kirsten Dunst in Tom Ford
Dunst, who attended to support her husband Jesse Plemons (nominated for his role as Teddy Gatz in Bugonia), was a vision in this open-backed satin gown by Tom Ford. The deep green color and chain detail are all this look needs to be one of my favorites of the night. It’s simple and elegant, and my only complaint is that we got so few solo photos of Dunst on the red carpet (although of course I understand the reasoning).
Ayo Edebiri in Chanel
Nominated for her role as Sydney Adamu in FX on Hulu’s The Bear, Edebiri kept things classic in this off-the-shoulder Chanel gown with a short hairdo that reminds me a little of Jackie Kennedy. I normally don’t particularly like Chanel, but they had a couple of looks on this carpet that impressed me, and I’d love to see more like this.
Selena Gomez in Chanel
In an unprecedented turn of events, Chanel delivered not one, but two red carpet looks that I actually like. Gomez, nominated for her role as Mabel Mora in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, has pretty much worn some variation of the same outfit on every red carpet since last year: an old Hollywood bob paired with a sleek off-the-shoulder gown. But you know what they say: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The white feathers add just the right amount of interest to this dress, and I’ll never turn down a tasteful bold lip.
Kylie Jenner in Ashi Studio
Jenner unfortunately didn’t walk the red carpet (hence the limited photo options), but she was present at the ceremony to support Timothée Chalamet. She stole the show in this shimmering sequined gown by Ashi Studio, and I especially love the delicate strap details at the neckline. See some better photos of the dress on her Instagram.
Jennifer Lawrence in Givenchy
Quite possible my favorite look of the night was brought to us by the one and only Jennifer Lawrence, nominated for her role as Grace in Die My Love. The floral embroidery is exquisite, and I love the matching purse and jacket. Givenchy also posted a video on their Instagram that shows a closer look at this stunning gown. Creative Director Sarah Burton hasn’t been with Givenchy for long, but I loved her work for Alexander McQueen, and she’s certainly impressed me here. Fun fact: Burton also designed Kate Middleton’s wedding dress!
Lisa in Jacquemus
Blackpink’s Lisa, who appeared in an episode of HBO Max’s 6x nominated The White Lotus, really impressed me with this Jacquemus gown. The draping of the sheer black fabric makes me feel like she’s about to lead us into the underworld, and I would gladly follow her. This look also makes me think of a chicer version of Morticia Addams, if that’s even possible. Lisa changed into a metallic Thom Browne gown during the ceremony, which you can see on her Instagram.
Britt Lower in Loewe
Lower, nominated for her dual roles as Helena Eagan and Helly R. in Apple TV’s Severance, showed up in this beautifully draped gown by Loewe. If there’s one thing to know about me, it’s that I love to see a redhead in green. This color looks excellent on her, and I love the asymmetric high neckline.
Audrey Nuna in Thom Browne
Once again, Nuna (Mira’s singing voice in the thrice-nominated KPop Demon Hunters) wins with her commitment to the look. This black and white ensemble is brought to life with exaggerated bow details, a dramatic face veil, a black lip and a whimsical braided hairstyle. A new face on the red carpet (at least for me), Nuna stands out with a clearly established style and willingness to take red-carpet fashion to the next level. I, for one, can’t wait to see what she does next.
Jenna Ortega in Dilara Findikoglu
Ortega, nominated for her titular role in Netflix’s Wednesday, always brings her own unique style to the red carpet. She’s been serving a masterclass in method dressing for years now, and I’m always excited to see what she has in store. This dress plays with proportions in such a fun way with its high neck, side cutouts and sculpted shoulders, and I love the ghostly feel of Ortega’s slightly undone hair and makeup.
Chris Perfetti in Christian Cowan
I love it when a man wears something interesting. Perfetti, who stars as Jacob Hill in ABC’s Abbot Elementary, was a breath of fresh air in this wonderfully bright blue suit. I also love the use of a rose as a closure for the jacket. I’ve seen some people call it gimmicky, but I think it’s fun (and this is my blog, so I make the rules).
Parker Posey in Rodarte
It’s kind of crazy that we had to wait until 2026 for a decent live-action Belle dress, but here we are. I LOVE this look. The color, the ruffles, the bow, the necklace, the hair, the gloves. I have no criticisms and endless praise. Posey, nominated for her role as Victoria Ratliff in HBO Max’s The White Lotus, looks like a real-life princess, and you can tell she’s having a blast. More of this in 2026, please and thank you.
Renate Reinsve in Louis Vuitton
Reinsve, nominated for her role as Nora Borg in Sentimental Value, was stunning in this beaded fringe gown by Louis Vuitton. It looks nice enough in photos, but the motion of this dress is what makes it phenomenal. I love the way Reinsve’s dress moves with her. This look in particular makes me incredibly grateful for the altered red-carpet format we saw at this year’s ceremony.
Brittany Snow in Danielle Frankel
Snow, who starred as Nina Jarvis in the thrice nominated miniseries The Beast In Me, arrived in this white gown that I’ll admit I find a little confusing. It looks like we have a mermaid skirt situation with a flared hemline, connected back to the top of the dress with a sheer fabric. It took me a while to figure out what imagery this dress was evoking for me, and I think what it reminds me of is a chess piece. Do I like it? Not especially. But I find it interesting and I like that Snow brought something to the red carpet that I haven’t seen before.
Teyana Taylor in Schiaparelli
Taylor, who won Best Supporting Female Actor in a Motion Picture for her role as Perfidia Beverly Hills in One Battle After Another, delivered another one of my favorite looks on this carpet. While she typically goes for more daring looks, everyone looks good in a sleek black dress. This one in particular is divine, and the sparkling bow detail on the back is such a fun touch.
Tessa Thompson in Balenciaga
Nominated for her titular role in Hedda, Thompson brought down the house in this gorgeous green Balenciaga gown. While I wouldn’t have been mad at a necklace, the simplicity of this look really allows the dress to speak for itself. The sequined green fabric reminds me of a (very stylish) snake, and I love to see it. Thompson’s hair also looks lovely here.
